Mayor Proclamation for National Historic Preservation Month

CoMo Preservation and Columbia’s Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) requested May 2025 to be declared national historic preservation month with the city. The proclamation was accepted with Mayor Barbara Buffaloe reading the proclamation at the HPC’s Most Notable Property event on May 7, 2025.

As stated in the Proclamation: “NOW, THEREFORE, I, Barbara Buffaloe, Mayor of Columbia, Missouri, do hereby proclaim the month of May as National Historic Preservation Month. I call upon all citizens to join me in honoring our architectural heritage, supporting efforts to preserve and protect historic buildings, and promote awareness of their significance in our community.”

CoMo Preservation is devoted to helping homeowners, landlords, and institutions prevent the destruction of historic architecture. Original period styles might be replicated, but will forever lack the social history of authentic structures. The preservation of historic places and spaces gives people a sense of place and boosts Columbia’s economy. You can get involved by becoming a member, volunteering, signing up for our newsletter attending an event, or donating.
