Join us for a special on-site access event on October 27, 2026, featuring an exclusive visit inside the historic Calvary Episcopal Church in downtown Columbia, MO. Church archivist Eddy Lyons will share the history and architecture of the church, followed by CoMo Preservation’s Dee Wasman, who will discuss the building’s architect, Mary Hale Lafon. Learn more about the church, its architecture, and this rare early female architect from the late 19th century.
Eddy is a parishioner at Calvary Episcopal Church, volunteers as the church’s archivist, and is currently pursuing an MLIS degree. Dee is one of the co-founders of CoMo Preservation and currently serves on its board. When Dianna O’Brien gathered a team of volunteers to help create the “Where Women Made History” tour script, Dee chose to research architect Mary Hale Lafon. Through her research, Dee became inspired by Mary Hale Lafon, her passion, and her work, and looks forward to sharing Mary’s story.
Following the presentation, attendees may participate in an optional tour of the church. This event is free; however, to help facilitate planning, please select either a ticket for the presentation only or a ticket for the presentation plus tour.
