Step into the Grasslands, one of Columbia’s most charming and varied residential areas, with this guided walking tour. Explore a rich mix of architectural styles—from 1930s Cape Cod and Colonial influences to mid-century Ranch homes and thoughtfully updated residences. Along the way, discover how landscape design and additions shape the character of a neighborhood. Highlights include conversations on evolving home styles, the role of gardens in defining curb appeal, and how homeowners balance preservation with modern living. The residential landscaping and gardens of numerous residences in this vicinity will be observed (from the street or sidewalk) and discussed.
Your tour guide, James Quinn, is a retired horticulture specialist from Univ. of MO Extension, and has a rich depth of organizing and leading educational efforts with flowers, fruit, vegetables, greenhouses and ornamentals. He has enjoyed gardening/landscaping at the one acre yard of the Prairie Bungalow house ‘on Broadway’ that he’s resided at with his wife for 25+ years. James is joined by Patrick Earney who is a structural engineer by day, historic preservation lover by night.
Tickets are $10 per person.
