Historic Wood Windows- Myths, Maintenance, & Restoration

We are so grateful to Patrick Earney for sharing his knowledge and experience about historic windows during our Historic Wood Windows introductory workshop on Nov 3rd. We learned about the history of window construction and that historic windows were made to last. With proper maintenance, they can be as efficient as modern ones. We watched a demonstration of how to reglaze a window and how to open up a window to find the broken ropes for repair.  Check out the slides and a resource document in our archives

A big shout out to our host, Sawdust Studios at 3150 Paris Road in Columbia! Learn about the numerous woodworking classes they offer.  We also want to thank our friends at the State Historic Preservation Office and Missouri Preservation for spreading the word about this great opportunity! Keep an eye on our Tours & Events page for more opportunities.

We plan to do a 2-day workshop in 2026.  Stay in the loop by signing up for our newsletter.

CoMo Preservation is devoted to helping homeowners, landlords, and institutions prevent the destruction of historic architecture. Original period styles might be replicated, but will forever lack the social history of authentic structures. The preservation of historic places and spaces gives people a sense of place and boosts Columbia’s economy. You can get involved by becoming a member, volunteering, signing up for our newsletter attending an event, or donating.
