Historic Restoration at the David Guitar House

On February 24, 2026, CoMo Preservation members and friends were invited to the historic David Guitar Home to hear from Geoff Taylor about his work on historic properties in Columbia. We are grateful to Geoff for sharing about his experience painting all of the exterior and the interior front rooms of the David Guitar home and doing many repair projects along the way.  He shared before and after photos, including some of the plaster repair work on the interior front parlors known as the ‘music room’ and the ‘library.’

While one group listened to Taylor, another group was able to tour the house and hear from the owners about the experience of living in an old house. Jay and Chris Creasy reported, “Having grown up in Columbia, both my husband and I very much enjoyed listening to shared information on the many challenges of historic preservation, along with an amazing tour of the Guitar mansion! The best part was the stories people shared, and the fact that we could ask any questions (and we did!). It was nice to chat with like-minded people and we are happy to see this amazing home is being taken care of!”

CoMo Preservation is devoted to helping homeowners, landlords, and institutions prevent the destruction of historic architecture. Original period styles might be replicated, but will forever lack the social history of authentic structures. The preservation of historic places and spaces gives people a sense of place and boosts Columbia’s economy. You can get involved by becoming a member, volunteering, signing up for our newsletter attending an event, or donating.
