Digging in the Archives with Bob Nolte, Boone County Recorder of Deeds
On February 10, 2026, CoMo Preservation members and friends had a special opportunity to step behind the scenes of local history during a hands-on research session with Bob Nolte, Boone County’s Recorder of Deeds.
We are grateful to Bob for welcoming our group and guiding us through the incredible resources available in the Boone County Recorder of Deeds Office. The session introduced participants to the tools and techniques used to research property records, trace ownership history, and better understand the stories behind Columbia’s historic buildings.
If you missed the February session—or want to go deeper—another opportunity is coming this summer. Join us for our next archival research workshop on June 9. Reserve your spot today at https://www.comopreservation.org/events
For anyone interested in researching their home, neighborhood, or historic property, the Recorder of Deeds office is open to the public Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (excluding state holidays).
At CoMo Preservation, we believe that every building has a story. Learning how to uncover those stories through historic records helps us better understand—and protect—Columbia’s architectural heritage. 🏛️

CoMo Preservation is devoted to helping homeowners, landlords, and institutions prevent the destruction of historic architecture. Original period styles might be replicated, but will forever lack the social history of authentic structures. The preservation of historic places and spaces gives people a sense of place and boosts Columbia’s economy.
